Skinny Jeans, if you love them or hate them, they are everywhere. But where did they come?
1950 and 1960 fashion:
Jeans became a symbol of youth rebellion and passionate sex symbol worn by the day. James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Elvis wore their jeans straight and slim. Although women in the 50's do not often wear jeans; Audrey Hepburn, Sandra Dee, and Marilyn Monroe wore a dress from the 50's sleek, close fitting pants that have the same sexy silhouette skinnies today. With her jeans the 60's are more common (even though the zipper was in the back) and they continue to have a lean silhouette. Display can be super sweet like the girl next door, or sexy and rebellious as a greaser Chics in music and movies with the same name. Rock and Roll came of age and tight jeans a uniform.
1970 Mode
The essence of Rock and Roll skinny jeans remain strong despite the flash of fur and the disco era. When we think about the fashion of the 70s, we think of an elephant bell jeans flare and fun, but dig a little deeper and you'll find the beginning of the punk movement and a pair of skinny jeans in history. Tight from the waist to the ankle, is often used safety pins to keep them comfortable throughout the body and increase the interest of slavery. Think of The Sex Pistols and The Ramones as prime examples. Vivian Westwood have my own shop to sell these "anti-fashion" to the ultra hip crowd.
1980 mode

Tight and washed stone, (still no stretch in the denim) the 80's fashion is where the tapered leg jeans really make their mark, and the style lasted well into the 90s. Remember the oversized shirt and colorful leg warmers? Pat Benetar, Chrissie Hynde and The Rolling Stones, all the serious rocker wore tight denim them (without the leg warmers of course).
1990 Mode
While mainstream fashion heads toward the boot cut, skinny jeans recapture their cool. No longer popular in the fashion of the 90s, tight jeans can still be found in the music world. The Rolling Stones are still rolling along, and the underground Punk Goth cousin who fester in tight skinny jeans (anti-fashion once again). Ever wonder why the "Rock n Roll" so often mentioned in reference to jeans? To mainstream America has taken a turn skinny jean disturbing, developing a style tapered legs and even the horrors of fake denim leggings (some people just have trouble moving on).
2000-2003
